Africatown Welcome Center
Opening in May 2026, the Africatown Welcome Center will serve as the gateway to one of America’s most powerful historic communities. Designed to orient and inspire visitors, the Welcome Center will provide a central place to learn about Africatown’s legacy, the resilience of the Clotilda survivors, and the vibrant culture that continues to shape the community today.
This $5.1 million project will include meeting rooms, exhibition spaces, and outdoor areas for events. It will serve as a starting point for tours to landmarks like the Clotilda, which is now a historical site. It will also connect guests to Africatown’s historic sites, walking tours, and local businesses, helping visitors fully experience the area’s rich heritage.
As another milestone in Africatown’s ongoing revitalization, the Welcome Center reflects a continued commitment to making the community a world-class Cultural Heritage Tourist Destination. With its opening, visitors will have a dedicated place to begin their journey—one that honors the past while celebrating the future of Africatown.
