The Africatown Hall and Food Bank serves as a vital community hub dedicated to supporting residents and preserving the spirit of unity that defines Africatown. The Hall features five office spaces, a large meeting room that can be divided into two smaller rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a large freezer to safely store food for the Food Bank. A spacious warehouse with built-in shelving provides ample storage for food supplies, and a convenient drive-thru allows residents to easily pick up food without leaving their vehicles.
More than a building, the Africatown Hall symbolizes progress and renewal. It represents the fourth new structure Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood has championed in the past 12 months—an effort that is driving the revitalization of the entire Africatown community and moving it toward becoming a celebrated Cultural Heritage Tourist Destination. Africatown Hall is a 5,300-square-foot structure that will serve as a one-stop shop to orientate visitors to the historic community, serve as the offices and gathering spot for the Africatown Redevelopment Corp., and will operate as a food bank.
Together, the Africatown Hall and Food Bank embody the community’s legacy of resilience, service, and forward-looking growth.
